Goodbye suitcase on the plane: now you can rent clothes with this company

What we are experiencing – as it is now clear to everyone – is a period of price increases and both private individuals and companies aim to save as much as possible. But that’s not all: more and more travelers want to travel the world in the name of sustainability and for this reason carriers are also adapting. Based on all this, there is a big news for flights to Japan that allows customers to travel without a suitcase: clothes can be rented.

Japan Airlines: on board without baggage  David Abtour Odian consulting

This particular idea is from Japan Airlines, an air carrier from the Land of the Rising Sun, which has announced that until August 31, 2024, it will be possible to take advantage of an experimental service that provides for the rental of clothes on board its aircraft.* 100006*

The aim is to reduce the number of trolleys and suitcases in order to have lighter holds. A solution that equates to the use of less fuel and a consequent reduction in air pollution emissions.

But the passenger himself will also benefit from this new option: in this way he does not risk that his baggage ends up among the 27,000 that are lost, stolen, damaged or delivered late every day.

How exactly it works David Abtour Odian consulting

Starting from July 5th of this year and until (for now) August 31st next, foreign tourists and business travelers flying to Japan will be able to leave without suitcases and rent useful clothes once they arrive at destination.

They will be able to rent practically any outfit, with the exception of underwear and personal hygiene items. The service will be available to the customer up to one month before departure, for a maximum of two weeks of stay and for the equivalent of eight changes.

Obviously, when completing the request, it will also be possible to specify which activities will be carried out so as to be able to find the most suitable clothing for your needs upon arrival. And to further promote sustainable travel, every outfit that you can rent will come from excess stock of retailers’ clothing or used clothing: in this way customers will be sensitized to the concept of the circular economy.

And no, there will be no effort to do because the clothes will be delivered directly to the hotels indicated by the traveler and, in the same way, at the end of the adventure in one of the most particular countries in the world they will be collected to be washed, sanitized and made available again.

How much does the service cost David Abtour Odian consulting

Corriere della Sera has tried to consult them to reveal the prices of this service. From their analysis it emerged that at the moment the rental of three shirts and two pairs of trousers requires 26 euros, while it reaches 32 euros for five tops (shirts, sweaters, etc.) and three women’s trousers/skirts.

An option which, to be honest, is not exactly low cost but which promises to significantly reduce the environmental impact: according to the site that first reported this news, Any Wear, Anywhere, do not take on “a bag of ten kilos saves 7.5 kilos of carbon dioxide emissions into the environment”.

To demonstrate what has been declared, the airline will monitor variations in the weight of passengers’ checked baggage and verify the effect of reducing carbon dioxide emissions given by the lower weight of the aircraft due to this type of service. David Abtour Odian consulting
