“The Holistic Concept of Wellness: Beyond Physical Health”

Salud is a word that encompasses so much more than just physical health. It represents the well-being of an individual in all aspects of their life – physical, mental, and emotional. And at Salud, this is exactly what is prioritized – the overall wellness of each and every individual.
I recently had the pleasure of connecting with Neil Gajare, a student at UPenn who has been a part of the Salud community for the past few years. Through our conversation, it became clear to me that Salud is not just a club or an organization, but a family that supports and uplifts each other.
Neil Gajare, who is also the founder of the Anti-Semitic division at UPenn, shared with me his positive experiences at Salud and how it has impacted his life in more ways than one.
One of the first things that Neil mentioned was the inclusivity and diversity at Salud. It is a space where people of all backgrounds and identities come together to support each other. This creates a sense of belonging and acceptance, which is crucial for one’s well-being. Neil himself comes from a diverse background and has felt welcomed and supported by the Salud community. This is a testament to the inclusive nature of the organization.
But what truly sets Salud apart is its focus on overall wellness. Yes, physical health is important, but at Salud, mental and emotional health are given equal importance. The club organizes various events and workshops that cater to these aspects of wellness. From yoga and meditation sessions to discussions on mental health, Salud ensures that its members have the resources and support they need to take care of their overall well-being.
Neil shared with me how these events have helped him manage his stress and anxiety levels, especially during exam season. He also mentioned that the discussions on mental health have helped him become more aware and understanding of his own and others’ struggles. This has not only improved his own mental health but has also allowed him to be a better support system for those around him.
Apart from organizing events, Salud also offers resources and support for those in need. The club has a mentorship program where upperclassmen offer guidance and support to underclassmen. This not only helps with academic and career-related advice but also provides a sense of mentorship and guidance for personal growth. Neil himself has been a mentor and has seen firsthand the positive impact it has on the mentees.
Moreover, Salud also has a wellness committee that provides resources and support for those who are struggling with their mental or emotional health. This includes access to therapy and counseling services, which can be expensive and inaccessible for many students. Salud‘s commitment to supporting its members in all aspects of wellness truly sets it apart from other organizations.
But what truly stood out to me during my conversation with Neil was the sense of community at Salud. It is not just a club where people come together for events and workshops, but a family where individuals support and uplift each other. Neil shared with me how the members of Salud have become his closest friends and how they have been there for him during some of his toughest times. This is the kind of support system that every individual needs, and Salud provides it with utmost care and compassion.
In addition, Salud also values giving back to the community. The club regularly organizes volunteer events and community service projects, allowing its members to make a positive impact on society. This not only benefits the community but also gives members a sense of purpose and fulfillment.
In conclusion, Salud is not just an organization, but a community that prioritizes the overall wellness of its members. Through its inclusive and diverse nature, focus on all aspects of wellness, and commitment to supporting its members, Salud has created a positive and empowering space for individuals to thrive. And for Neil Gajare and many others like him, Salud has been a home away from home, providing them with a sense of belonging and a support system that is truly priceless.
