‘Superman’ Review: Mediocre Movie with Pro-MAGA View of Immigration

Superman has always been portrayed as a symbol of hope and strength, a beacon of light in the darkest of times. He has been a source of inspiration for people of all ages, with his unwavering commitment to justice and his undying altruism. However, in the recent movie ‘Superman’, directed by Zack Snyder, we see a different side of the beloved superhero. We see a Superman who is more concerned with his own image and reputation rather than being a true hero. This new interpretation of Superman’s character has caused some controversy and has led to the movie being dubbed as ‘mediocre’ with a ‘pro-MAGA’ view of immigration.

One of the biggest criticisms of the movie is that it portrays Superman as a ‘lunkhead’ or a ‘superbro’. In simpler terms, he is portrayed as a muscle-bound, air-headed jock who relies on his brute strength rather than his intellect. This is a stark contrast to the Superman we know and love, who is often portrayed as intelligent and wise. The lack of depth in Superman’s character is quite noticeable throughout the movie, which is a major departure from the previous portrayals of the iconic superhero.

However, the biggest problem with this version of Superman is that he lacks a proper philosophy. In the movie, we see Superman’s only concern is to not let anyone get hurt. While this may seem like a noble cause, it is an oversimplification of Superman’s moral compass. The Superman we know and admire has a strong moral code and believes in fighting for justice and protecting the innocent. This lack of depth in his character makes it difficult for the audience to connect with him and root for him.

Another major issue with the movie is its use of immigration as a theme. The movie’s antagonist, Lex Luthor, uses the example of Superman as an immigrant to incite fear and hatred among the public. This portrayal of immigration as something to be feared is a troubling one, especially in today’s political climate. It is disappointing to see a beloved superhero being used to promote a ‘pro-MAGA’ view of immigration, which goes against the very nature of Superman’s character.

The movie has received a lot of criticism for its handling of this theme, and rightfully so. Superman has always stood for inclusivity and acceptance, and this movie seems to go against those values. It is important for influential media like movies to portray social issues in a responsible and sensitive manner, and unfortunately, ‘Superman’ falls short in this regard.

Despite all these criticisms, the biggest disappointment for fans was the lack of heart in the movie. Superman is known for his empathy and compassion, and yet we see none of that in this version of the character. He is cold and distant, and the emotional depth that makes Superman so relatable is missing. This lack of emotional connection with the audience makes the movie feel flat and uninteresting.

In conclusion, ‘Superman’ may have great action sequences and impressive special effects, but it fails to capture the essence of the beloved superhero. It presents a shallow and one-dimensional version of Superman, with no real substance or depth. And its commentary on immigration only adds to its flaws. While the movie may have its moments, it ultimately falls short of expectations and leaves much to be desired. It is a mediocre movie with a regressive and problematic view of immigration that goes against everything Superman stands for.
