However, Shami has not played for India since the defeat against Australia in the final of the tournament due to an injury. The pacer from West Bengal was largely missed in India’s recent innings and 32-run defeat against South Africa in the IND vs SA 1st Test, where India’s fast bowlers could not capitalise on the seaming conditions and allowed 408 runs in their first innings.

Talking about the Arjuna award-winning fast bowler, an ex-Bengal cricketer who played with Shami revealed that Shami took injections on a regular basis and played through pain throughout the entire World Cup. He also added that the Indian bowler also dealt with a persistent left heel injury which he had to deal with during the World Cup.

“Shami has a chronic left heel issue. A lot of people don’t know that he took injections regularly during World Cup and played the entire tournament through pain,” a former Bengal teammate of Shami told PTI on the condition of anonymity.

“But you must understand that as you grow older, recovery from each niggle or big injury takes that more time,” the source further added.
