Nepal cricketer Sandeep Lamichhane has been found guilty of raping a minor girl by the Kathmandu District Court on Friday, December 29, The Kathmandu Post reported.
The court will decide both the duration of his prison sentence and any potential compensation during the next hearing, the report further added.
Lamichhane, who also played for Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League (IPL), is out on bail since January 12 and has been travelling with national team for the tournaments.
The victim first filed an FIR against the former Nepal captain on September 6 in 2022, while Lamichhane was playing in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL).
However, the former DC spinner had denied the allegations in a statement on social media.
“I have decided to take a leave from CPL and go back to my country within few days. I am ready to face all these baseless allegations. May justice be served to the innocent & right investigation to be done towards everyone involved. Hope the law acts equal to everyone”, Lamichhane wrote in the statement.
