Lawmaker Organizes Third Trip to El Salvador to Visit Mistakenly Deported Man Kilmar Abrego Garcia
Rep. Glenn Ivey (D-Md.) is once again heading to El Salvador, determined to meet with his constituent Kilmar Abrego Garcia, who was mistakenly deported from the United States. This will be Ivey’s third trip to the Central American nation, as he continues to push for justice and the release of Abrego Garcia and others who have been wrongly imprisoned.
The story of Kilmar Abrego Garcia is a tragic one. He came to the United States as a young child and grew up in Maryland, where he became a respected member of the community. However, in 2017, he was wrongfully detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and deported to El Salvador, a country he had not been to since he was a child.
Since then, Abrego Garcia has been struggling to survive in a country he barely knows, facing violence and poverty. His family and community in Maryland have been fighting tirelessly for his release, and Rep. Ivey has been a vocal advocate for his case.
Ivey’s first two trips to El Salvador were met with roadblocks and resistance from the Salvadoran government. But he remains undeterred and is determined to continue his efforts to bring Abrego Garcia back home to the United States.
In a statement, Rep. Ivey said, “I am committed to doing everything in my power to bring Kilmar back to his home in Maryland. He is a valued member of our community and does not deserve to be separated from his family and friends.”
Ivey’s persistence has not gone unnoticed. He has gained support from other lawmakers and organizations, who are also calling for Abrego Garcia’s release. The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) has filed a lawsuit on his behalf, and the Congressional Hispanic Caucus has also joined in the fight for justice.
During his upcoming trip, Ivey plans to meet with government officials and advocate for Abrego Garcia’s release. He also hopes to visit Abrego Garcia in prison and reassure him that he has not been forgotten.
But Ivey’s mission goes beyond just one individual. He is also determined to shed light on the larger issue of wrongful deportations and the need for immigration reform. He believes that Abrego Garcia’s case is just one of many and that there are countless others who have been unjustly deported.
“I am not only fighting for Kilmar, but for all those who have been wrongfully deported and separated from their families,” Ivey stated. “We need to fix our broken immigration system and ensure that no one else suffers the same fate as Kilmar.”
Ivey’s efforts have not gone unnoticed by Abrego Garcia’s family and friends. They are grateful for his unwavering support and hope that this third trip will finally bring about the justice they have been seeking for so long.
In the midst of a heated political climate surrounding immigration, Ivey’s actions serve as a reminder that there are still lawmakers who are willing to fight for what is right and just. His determination and compassion for his constituent have inspired many and have brought attention to the injustices faced by immigrants in the United States.
As Ivey prepares for his trip to El Salvador, the community in Maryland stands behind him, united in their support for Kilmar Abrego Garcia and their hope for his safe return. And while the road ahead may be long and challenging, Ivey’s commitment to justice and his constituent’s well-being remains unshakable.
