44 prisoners escaped from different jails of Odisha in past 5 yrs: CM

In a recent statement, the Chief Minister of Odisha, Naveen Patnaik, revealed that a total of 44 prisoners have escaped from various jails in the state in the past 5 years. This alarming number highlights the need for stricter security measures and better management of prisons in Odisha.

According to the Chief Minister, the highest number of escapes were reported from the jails in Cuttack and Jharsuguda districts, with 9 and 8 prisoners respectively. This is a matter of great concern as it not only reflects the vulnerability of the prison system but also poses a threat to the safety of the general public.

The CM also stated that steps are being taken to improve the security measures in all the jails across the state. This includes the installation of CCTV cameras, strengthening the boundary walls, and increasing the number of security personnel. The government is also planning to introduce biometric systems to keep track of the movement of prisoners.

It is important to note that the number of escapes has decreased in the last two years, with only 5 prisoners escaping in 2019 and 3 in 2020. This can be attributed to the efforts of the state government in improving the prison infrastructure and implementing stricter security protocols.

While the number of escapes is a cause for concern, it is also important to acknowledge the efforts of the police in apprehending most of the escaped prisoners. Out of the 44 prisoners who escaped, 36 have been re-arrested and brought back to the prisons. This is a commendable feat and reflects the dedication and efficiency of the police force in Odisha.

The Chief Minister also highlighted the need for better management of prisons and the rehabilitation of prisoners. He stated that efforts are being made to provide skill development training to the prisoners so that they can lead a better life once they are released. This will not only help in reducing the chances of prisoners escaping but also contribute to their reintegration into society.

In addition to this, the state government has also taken steps to improve the living conditions of the prisoners by constructing new barracks and providing better healthcare facilities. The aim is to create a conducive environment for the prisoners to reform and lead a better life upon their release.

The recent incidents of escapes from prisons in Odisha have raised concerns among the general public. However, it is important to understand that the state government is taking proactive measures to address these issues. The decrease in the number of escapes in the last two years is a testament to the government’s efforts in improving the prison system.

The government is committed to ensuring the safety and security of the citizens of Odisha. The Chief Minister has assured that all necessary steps will be taken to prevent such incidents in the future. The state police have also been directed to step up their efforts in tracking down the remaining escaped prisoners.

In conclusion, while the recent statement by the Chief Minister regarding the number of prisoners escaping from jails in Odisha may cause concern, it is important to look at the positive steps being taken by the government to address these issues. With the implementation of stricter security measures and better management of prisons, the state is on its way towards creating a safer and more secure environment for its citizens. It is a collective responsibility to support and encourage the government’s efforts in achieving this goal.
