Texas lieutenant gov rips Hunt for entering Senate race: ‘He had no business’

Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick (R) has recently expressed his disappointment with Rep. Wesley Hunt (R-Texas) for entering the GOP Senate primary in the Lone Star State. In an interview on “The Mark Davis Show” on Thursday, Patrick slammed Hunt for his decision to run for Senate, stating that he should have never entered the race.

Hunt, a former Army officer and businessman, came in a distant third in Tuesday’s primary, receiving only 13.5 percent of the vote. This was a significant blow to his campaign, as he had been endorsed by several prominent Republicans, including Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-Texas).

Patrick, who has been a vocal supporter of incumbent Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas), did not hold back in his criticism of Hunt. He stated that Hunt’s entry into the race was a mistake and that he should have known better. “Wesley Hunt should have never gotten in this race,” Patrick said. “He had no chance of winning and he wasted everyone’s time and resources.”

The Texas Lt. Gov. also pointed out that Hunt’s lack of political experience was a major factor in his poor performance in the primary. “He has never held elected office before and it showed in his campaign,” Patrick stated. “Running for Senate is not something you can just jump into without any prior experience. It takes years of hard work and dedication to build a strong political base and gain the trust of voters.”

Patrick’s comments have sparked a debate within the Republican party, with some questioning his harsh criticism of Hunt. However, others have come to his defense, stating that he is simply stating the truth and that Hunt’s entry into the race was ill-advised.

Hunt, on the other hand, has remained positive and gracious in the face of Patrick’s criticism. In a statement released after the primary results, he thanked his supporters and congratulated Sen. Cornyn on his victory. “I am proud of the campaign we ran and the message we delivered to the people of Texas,” Hunt said. “I wish Sen. Cornyn all the best in the general election and I will continue to support him and the Republican party.”

Despite his loss, Hunt’s entry into the race has brought attention to the GOP Senate primary in Texas, which has been overshadowed by the highly contested Democratic primary. His campaign focused on issues such as national security, immigration, and healthcare, and he was seen as a rising star within the Republican party.

As for Sen. Cornyn, he has expressed his gratitude to the voters of Texas for their support and has already shifted his focus to the general election. “I am honored to have received the Republican nomination for Senate and I am ready to continue fighting for the people of Texas,” Cornyn said in a statement.

The Texas Senate race is expected to be one of the most closely watched and highly contested races in the upcoming general election. With the Democrats vying to flip the Senate and the Republicans fighting to maintain their majority, the stakes are high for both parties.

In the end, while Hunt’s entry into the race may have caused some tension within the Republican party, it has also brought attention to the importance of unity and support within the party. As the general election approaches, it is crucial for the Republicans to come together and support their candidates in order to secure a victory in November.
