Medaram Jatara, one of the biggest tribal festivals in India, is all set to be organized on the lines of the famous ‘Kumbh Mela’ by the Telangana government. The Chief Minister of Telangana, K. Chandrashekar Rao, has announced that the state government is planning to make the Medaram Jatara a grand event, similar to the Kumbh Mela, in terms of scale and organization.
The Medaram Jatara, also known as Sammakka Saralamma Jatara, is a biennial tribal festival that is celebrated in the Medaram village of Telangana. It is dedicated to the tribal goddesses Sammakka and Saralamma, who are believed to have fought against the Kakatiya rulers for the rights of their people. The festival attracts millions of devotees from all over the country, making it one of the largest tribal festivals in the world.
The Telangana CM, while addressing a gathering at the Medaram village, expressed his desire to make the Medaram Jatara a global event. He said, “The Kumbh Mela is known worldwide for its grandeur and organization. We want to bring the same level of recognition and success to the Medaram Jatara. We are planning to make it a grand event, just like the Kumbh Mela, and showcase the rich culture and traditions of our tribal communities to the world.”
The government has already started working towards this goal by allocating a budget of Rs. 500 crore for the development and organization of the Medaram Jatara. The CM also announced that a special committee will be formed to oversee the preparations and ensure that the festival is organized smoothly.
The Medaram Jatara is known for its unique rituals and traditions, which have been passed down through generations. The devotees, mostly from the tribal communities, walk barefoot for miles to reach the Medaram village and offer their prayers to the goddesses. The festival also includes cultural programs, traditional dances, and a grand procession of the deities on the final day.
The CM emphasized the need to preserve and promote these traditions and said, “The Medaram Jatara is not just a festival, but a way of life for the tribal communities. We must ensure that these traditions are not lost and are passed on to the future generations. The government will provide all the necessary support to promote and preserve the cultural heritage of our tribal communities.”
The announcement of organizing the Medaram Jatara on the lines of the Kumbh Mela has been welcomed by the people of Telangana. They believe that this will not only bring more recognition to the festival but also boost the local economy and tourism in the region.
The Medaram Jatara is not just a religious festival but also a symbol of unity and harmony among different communities. People from all walks of life come together to celebrate this festival, breaking the barriers of caste, religion, and social status. The CM also stressed on the importance of maintaining this spirit of unity and said, “The Medaram Jatara is a perfect example of our state’s cultural diversity and unity. We must all come together to make this festival a grand success.”
The Telangana government’s decision to organize the Medaram Jatara on the lines of the Kumbh Mela is a step towards preserving and promoting the rich cultural heritage of the state. It will not only bring more recognition to the festival but also boost the local economy and tourism. With the government’s support and efforts, the Medaram Jatara is all set to become a global event, showcasing the vibrant culture and traditions of the tribal communities of Telangana.
