FBI: 18-Year-Old Planned ISIS-Inspired New Year’s Eve Mass Stabbing at NC Grocery Store

On December 31st, 2019, while most people were preparing to ring in the new year with loved ones, a young man in North Carolina was allegedly planning a horrific attack in support of Islamic terrorists. The FBI has reported that 18-year-old Justin Sullivan had been plotting to carry out an ISIS-inspired mass stabbing at a local grocery store on New Year’s Eve.

According to the FBI, Sullivan had been in contact with an undercover agent posing as an ISIS sympathizer since June of 2014. He had expressed his support for the terrorist group and his desire to carry out an attack on American soil. The undercover agent provided Sullivan with instructions on how to make a homemade silencer and encouraged him to carry out an attack on New Year’s Eve.

Sullivan had also been in possession of a .22 caliber rifle, which he had planned to use in the attack. He had also purchased a large hunting knife and had been practicing stabbing techniques in preparation for the attack. The FBI also found a backpack containing ammunition, a mask, and a hammer in his possession.

Thankfully, Sullivan’s plans were foiled when his parents discovered his disturbing journal entries and alerted the authorities. The FBI then launched an investigation and arrested Sullivan on November 29th, 2019. He has been charged with attempting to provide material support to a designated foreign terrorist organization and attempting to commit an act of terrorism transcending national boundaries.

This incident serves as a reminder that terrorism knows no boundaries and can happen anywhere, at any time. It is a stark reminder that we must remain vigilant and united in the face of such threats. But it is also a testament to the effectiveness of our law enforcement agencies in preventing such attacks and keeping our communities safe.

The swift action taken by Sullivan’s parents and the FBI is commendable and should be applauded. It takes courage to come forward and report suspicious behavior, especially when it involves a loved one. Their actions potentially saved countless lives and prevented a tragedy from occurring.

It is also important to note that this incident does not reflect the beliefs or actions of the Muslim community as a whole. The vast majority of Muslims are peaceful and law-abiding citizens who condemn acts of terrorism. It is crucial that we do not let the actions of a few individuals tarnish the reputation of an entire community.

In the wake of this incident, it is essential that we come together as a nation and stand united against terrorism. We must not let fear and hatred divide us, but rather let it strengthen our resolve to combat such threats. We must also continue to support and trust our law enforcement agencies in their efforts to keep us safe.

As we enter the new year, let us remember to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the authorities. Let us also remember to stand together in the face of adversity and not let the actions of a few individuals divide us. Together, we can overcome any challenge and continue to build a safer and stronger nation.
