Johnny Manziel Gushes About NFC Coach

Kevin O’Connell and Johnny Manziel may have had different paths in their football careers, but their connection goes back to 2014 when O’Connell served as Manziel’s private quarterback coach. Little did they know, this relationship would shape both of their careers in the years to come.

At the time, Manziel was preparing for the NFL Draft after an impressive college career that earned him the prestigious Heisman Trophy. O’Connell, a former NFL quarterback himself, saw potential in the young quarterback and took on the role of preparing him for the next level.

Their work together paid off when Manziel was drafted by the Cleveland Browns in the first round of the 2014 NFL Draft. But their journey together was far from over. In February 2015, the Browns hired O’Connell as their quarterbacks coach, a move that was heavily influenced by his prior work with Manziel.

Manziel, who had struggled in his rookie season, was excited to have O’Connell as his coach once again. In an interview with The Cold Wire, Manziel gushed about O’Connell’s impact on his career.

“He’s not just a coach, he’s a mentor and a friend,” Manziel said. “He knows me better than anyone and has always believed in me. I couldn’t have asked for a better coach to guide me through my NFL journey.”

O’Connell’s influence on Manziel was evident on the field. In his second season with the Browns, Manziel showed significant improvement under O’Connell’s guidance. He threw for 1,500 yards and seven touchdowns in just six starts, showcasing his potential as a franchise quarterback.

But their relationship went beyond the football field. O’Connell also played a crucial role in helping Manziel overcome personal struggles off the field. He provided support and guidance, helping Manziel get back on track and focus on his career.

Unfortunately, their time together in Cleveland was short-lived as Manziel was released by the Browns in 2016. But their bond remained strong, and O’Connell continued to support Manziel as he navigated through his ups and downs in the NFL.

Fast forward to 2021, and both O’Connell and Manziel have found themselves in the NFC. O’Connell is now the offensive coordinator for the Los Angeles Rams, while Manziel is playing for the Fan Controlled Football league’s Zappers.

Despite being on different teams, their connection remains as strong as ever. Manziel recently shared a photo on social media of him and O’Connell, with a caption that read, “Forever grateful for this man and the impact he’s had on my life.”

O’Connell also spoke highly of Manziel in a recent interview, saying, “Johnny is a special talent, and I’m proud of the progress he’s made both on and off the field. He’s a resilient and determined individual, and I have no doubt he will continue to succeed in whatever he sets his mind to.”

Their story is a testament to the power of mentorship and the impact a coach can have on a player’s life. O’Connell and Manziel’s bond goes beyond football, and it’s clear that they will always have each other’s backs.

As for the future, who knows where their paths will lead them, but one thing is for sure – their connection will always remain strong. And for Manziel, he will always be grateful for the coach who believed in him and helped him reach his full potential.
