SAN ANTONIO, Texas – On a sunny afternoon in downtown San Antonio, a group of more than 100 people gathered outside the federal immigration courtroom. They were there to protest against the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and show their support for the Party for Socialism and Liberation (PSL).
The protest was led by PSL organizers, who were joined by a passionate speaker, a public school teacher from San Antonio. She spoke about the injustices faced by immigrants and the need to stand in solidarity with them.
The teacher, who chose to remain anonymous, shared her personal experiences of working with immigrant students in her classroom. She talked about the fear and uncertainty they face every day, knowing that they or their loved ones could be targeted by ICE at any moment.
“The current immigration policies are inhumane and unjust. Families are being torn apart, children are being separated from their parents, and people are living in constant fear. This is not the America we believe in,” she said.
The crowd cheered in agreement as the teacher continued to speak about the need for a more compassionate and humane approach towards immigration.
She also addressed the issue of police brutality, stating that it is not just limited to the immigrant community, but affects people of color and marginalized communities as well.
“We cannot talk about immigration without addressing the systemic racism and oppression that exists in our society. We must stand against police brutality and demand accountability for their actions,” she said.
The teacher’s powerful words resonated with the crowd, who chanted slogans and held up signs in support of the cause. Many of them were holding signs that read “Abolish ICE” and “No human is illegal.”
The protest also featured other speakers, including representatives from local immigrant rights organizations and community leaders. They all spoke about the need to unite and fight against the oppressive immigration policies and stand in solidarity with the immigrant community.
One of the organizers from PSL, who also chose to remain anonymous, spoke about the importance of building a movement to challenge the current administration’s anti-immigrant agenda.
“We cannot rely on politicians to bring about change. It is up to us, the people, to come together and fight for justice and equality for all,” he said.
The protest also included a performance by a local band, who played songs of resistance and unity. The crowd sang along and danced, showing their support for the cause.
The event ended with a call to action, urging people to continue the fight against ICE and demand a more just and humane immigration system. The organizers also encouraged attendees to get involved with PSL and other local organizations working towards immigrant rights.
The protest was a powerful display of solidarity and resistance against the current immigration policies. It showed that the people of San Antonio are standing with the immigrant community and will not back down in the face of injustice.
As the teacher said, “We must continue to raise our voices and stand in solidarity with our immigrant brothers and sisters. Together, we can create a more just and welcoming society for all.”
