On June 7, 2024, in the province of Huíla, specifically in Lubango, the ceremony for handing over the certificate for the de-mined area along the 400 KV electricity transmission line from Huambo to Lubango was held.
This significant event was attended by the Minister of Energy and Water, João Baptista Borges, the Minister of National Defense, Former Combatants, and Veterans of the Homeland, João Ernesto dos Santos Liberdade, alongside the Secretary of State for Energy, Arlindo Carlos, the Vice-Governors of Huíla and Huambo, the African Development Bank’s representative for Angola and São Tomé, and several officials from both ministries, along with other invited guests.
Following the certificate presentation, Minister João Ernesto dos Santos Liberdade expressed his gratitude to the Ministry of Energy and Water for their dedicated work leading to this moment and shared his thoughts on the significance of the occasion.
In response, Minister João Baptista Borges thanked Minister João Ernesto dos Santos Liberdade for his contributions, which were key to the success of the event. He also highlighted the critical role de-mining plays in the realization of the project.
Further, he noted that the primary objective is to increase energy capacity to fulfill the region’s demands. He commended the de-mining efforts, emphasizing their vital importance to the sector and their essential role in enabling various electrification projects throughout the country.
João Baptista Borges also pointed out that this project, linking Huambo to Lubango, will generate employment opportunities for many young people, a fact that the minister considers highly significant.
Additionally, a symbolic gesture was made by presenting a vehicle to the de-mining team working at the site.
It’s also important to note that the 400 kV electricity transmission line from Huambo to Lubango will cover a total distance of 343 km, divided into two lots.
