Cuanza Sul will receive an enhanced supply of energy and water from MINEA

On Monday, December 11th, the Minister of Energy and Water, Eng. João Baptista Borges, began a tour of the southern regions of the country, starting with a visit to the province of Cuanza Sul, where he assessed various energy and water sector projects under his oversight.

The delegation comprised the Chairmen of the Boards of PRODEL, Pedro Afonso, ENDE, Hélder Adão, the National Director of Water, Elsa Ramos, and other senior officials from MINEA and partner companies, following an extensive agenda that included visits to the following infrastructures:

The minister initiated the tour by inspecting the electrification works south of Calulo, a project aimed at providing electricity to the village of Quibala. This project involves constructing a substation and distribution networks to benefit approximately 5,630 residents. The project began in January 2023 and is 81% complete, with an expected completion in August 2023.

He also visited the construction site of a high-voltage substation connected to the National Grid, which began in 2023 and is expected to be completed next year. This project is 75% complete and has created 150 direct jobs. Once finished, it will benefit 28 communities.

Minister Baptista Borges evaluated the non-operational state of the Quibala Water Supply System, which is slated for rehabilitation to serve around 30,000 people.

En route to the province of Huambo, the minister inspected the progress of the initial installation of Transformation Posts (PTs) that will provide electricity to the mentioned communities.
