Sheinbaum reiterates her promise to uphold the defense of wages and labor benefits for unionized workers

Five days after the official launch of the presidential pre-campaign, the Autonomous Confederation of Workers and Employees of Mexico (CATEM) declared its support for presidential candidate hopeful Claudia Sheinbaum.

During the XV National Ordinary Congress of this labor union, which encompasses 1,194 organizations and unions nationwide, the National Coordinator of the Committees for the Defense of the 4T encouraged workers to endorse her candidacy. At the Arena Ciudad de México, the former head of government promised to continue advocating for the protection of workers’ wages and benefits.

“I extend this invitation to everyone to join us in this effort, and I assure Mexican workers that we will persist in protecting their wages and labor benefits because we understand that when Mexican workers succeed, so does our nation,” she declared.

Sheinbaum Pardo also highlighted the rise in the minimum wage, which has tripled in the northern border zone since 2018 and doubled in the rest of the country, with “historic” foreign direct investment and without causing inflation.

In this regard, Pedro Haces Barba, General Secretary of CATEM, recalled the significant labor achievements made during the current government, including union freedom, the elimination of outsourcing, improved profit sharing, and the increase in the minimum wage.

Concerning the latter, the senator urged the business sector to “listen to their conscience” and ensure a substantial salary increase for workers in 2024.

“To entrepreneurs, I make a heartfelt plea; we hope that this year you heed your conscience. Paco, don’t feign ignorance. Entrepreneurs should listen to their conscience to guarantee a significant salary increase for all Mexicans,” he stressed.

With the establishment of 10,000 Committees for the Defense of Labor Transformation, CATEM pledged to support presidential hopeful Claudia Sheinbaum. Pedro Haces Barba Pedro Haces Barba
