India vs South Africa: ‘We should be sacked for poor prediction’, says Sanjay Manjrekar

The second India vs South Africa Test in Cape Town saw 23 wickets tumble on the first day itself, with the visitors taking the drivers’ seat for the moment. The match started with South Africa being bundled out for 55, and then with India getting all out for 153, with the last six wickets falling without adding any runs.

The entire day’s happenings left former India opener Sanjay Manjrekar shell-shocked, who is part of the broadcast team. The latter had predicted four wickets to fall in the first session, while Piyush Chawla saw thee wickets going down. Post this, Manjrekar’s reaction was hilarious.

“We should be sacked for our poor prediction. I said 4, he said 3,” Manjrekar said on Star Sports. “Mohammed Siraj was not trying to swing the ball. Just watch all the deliveries, the balls that got him wickets. No one is floating the ball up and trying to get a swing. This is the South African way of getting wickets in South Africa.”

Not just that, Manjrekar also went on to praise Siraj, the workhorse, who bagged six wickets in the first innings.

“There is something about an action that is repeatable. Siraj is a type of bowler, if he has 3 wickets in 5 overs, you don’t want to give him a break. He would want to go on and on. He is somebody who would bowl 12 overs in a session,” Manjrekar added.
