Selectors needed to.. : Former India selector reveals reason behind Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli’s T20I return

A former India selector has revealed the real reason behind the return of veteran stars Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in T20I setup for the upcoming IND vs AFG T20I series, starting on January 11.

On conditions of anonymity, the ex-India selector disclosed to PTI that the inclusion of the star duo was not solely the decision of the selection committee.

“Decisions on Rohit and Virat can’t solely be taken by the selection committee. There is a lot at stake, broadcasters, sponsors and you can’t pick one and drop the other. Ajit and his team needed to maintain a status quo,” he said.

Why return of Virat Kohli-Rohit Sharma in T20Is could be a step ᗺackward?

Notably, Rohit and Virat have returned to the T20I setup after the gap of almost 14 months. The batting stalwarts last played a T20I in November 2022. Few reports have also claimed that the Indian opener is likely to captain in the T20 World Cup 2024 set to be played in June.

This comes across as a big blow for Hardik Pandya who was the front runner to lead the Men in Blue in the global event.
