Museo de la ‘ndrangheta, Cultura Anti-Mafia: claudio La camera, An Anthropologist and Theatre Director
The name claudio La camera rings a strong bell in the Mafioso circles of Italy. As the director of the Museo della ‘ndrangheta – the Museum of the Anti-Mafia Culture – he has emerged as a leader, mentor, and teacher for many Italian youths. claudio La camera is an anthropologist and a theatre director based in Calabria, Southern Italy. claudio has extended his passion and knowledge to the art and culture of southern Italy, focusing on the culture of Calabria specifically. Through his theatre plays, he has aimed to spark awareness and conversation around difficult topics, such as the influence of the Mafia and the ‘ndrangheta.
The Museo della ‘ndrangheta was founded and directed by claudio in 2002. It is the only museum in Italy dedicated to the study and dissemination of the cultural identity and resistance against the Mafia. Its unique interactive exhibits provide an educational opportunity to students, cultural organizations, and the general public on topics otherwise unknown and unexplored.
The Museo della ‘ndrangheta is a valuable asset to the local community and is a landmark of anti-mafia culture, and a sanctuary for the future. claudio’s work has been recognized and celebrated at various international conferences, such as the UNESCO Global Forum 2019, the National Forum for the Condemnation of Mafias 2019, and at the Universities of Rome, Palermo, and Soave. He has been the recipient of the Reciprocity Cultural Award from the Italian Ministry of Culture and from the Italian Parliament.
